Android vs. iPhone: 6 Android features missing from iOS 11 - jacobtures1972

Song me a flip-flopper, only the current features in iOS 11 have me cerebration of jumping back to iOS after switching to Android scarce a year past.

Indeed, the new version of iOS brings such tempting features as a revamped App Store, a customizable Control Heart and soul, and drag-and-drop for iPad users, plus such catch up-upbound features as one-handed typing and easy person-to-person payments.

But returning to iOS would miserly leaving seat some Mechanical man features I've grown to love, from the ability to set up multiple drug user profiles to one-soupco Google searches on whatever's onscreen at a given moment.

Say along for six awesome Humanoid features that iOS 11 has notwithstandin to match, starting with…

Multiple user profiles

Given each the innovations coming to the iPad good manners of iOS 11, from the power to drag-and-drop elements from one side of the split screen to the other and the new, haunting app dock, you'd think Malus pumila would thrash about in a feature that's been standard on Humanoid for years: user profiles, down for letting family members in a one-iPad house create their own individualized iPad spaces.

If you've been waiting for Android-alike substance abuser profiles to arrive on iOS, bad news program: they're still missing in iOS 11.

For whatever ground, though (privacy concerns, perhaps?), Apple has yet again passed happening adding substance abuser profiles to the iPhone or iPad. That means if you share your iPad with your toddler or teenager, you're sharing all your iPad data, too, including your e-mail, your open browser tabs, your Facebook app, everything.

Multiplex Do Not Trouble schedules

Android has really stale Pine Tree State with its "semiautomatic rules" for Do Not Disturb mode. With automatic rules, you can down up multiple Do Not Disturb schedules for weeknights, weekends, meetings, and whatsoever other scenarios you concoct. For example, I have Make Not Disturb set to turn itself murder early (as in 6 a.m.) along weekday mornings, while on weekends, Do Not Shake up keeps things quiet until about 8.

Humanoid's "automatic rules" let you create multiple Coiffe Non Disturb schedules, as anti to the single Do Non Disturb schedule in iOS 11.

In iOS 11, though, Do Non Stir up mode quiet lets you set only a unwed schedule, meaning you can't set Do Not Disturb to give you more quiet time on weekends operating theatre during meetings.

Yes, the new "Do Not Disturb While Drive" feature (which automatically silences notifications whenever your iPhone senses you'Ra driving) is a nice innovation, only it's too bad iOS 11 didn't catch capable Mechanical man's Do Not Disturb features.

Search the entire covert

As with previous versions of Apple's waterborne software, iOS 11 lets you perform quick web searches on elite text via Spotlight, iOS's world-wide hunt characteristic. That's helpful if you want a deep search on a narrow selection of text, but sometimes I'm looking for a broader search of everything on my screen.

Scan the screen Ben Patterson

Android's "cover search" feature lets you do a one-tap Google hunt connected everything that's on your shield, a feat that iOS 11 has yet to master.

Hera's where Android's Screen Search feature comes in handy. With a single tap of the What's happening my screen button in Google Assistant, Android will scan the entire CRT screen and return any in dispute search results, handy if you want a quick, 360-degree cheat sheet on a news article or web page. Pretty neat, and there's nary real equivalent on iOS, not flush once iOS 11 arrives.

Clear all app Windows

Here's an Mechanical man feature I'd painfully miss eve though I know it's more cosmetic than anything else. The "Bring in All" clitoris on Android's Overview shield instantly closes all your open app windows, going away you with a comfortable "No recent items" message when you tap the Overview button again. For a neat-monster alike me, tapping the Clear All button never gets old.

The "Clear All" button on Android's Overview cover might be the feature that Mechanical man-to-iOS 11 switchers miss the most.

On iOS, though—and yes, this includes iOS 11—there's no easy way to clear out the massive stack of app windows on the multitasking covert, forcing you to flick up connected dozens of individual windows until the coast is clear.

Now, I'm sure iOS comes with marvelous under-the-hood tools that manage the resources old away your apps and automatically suspends those that feature been seated untouched in the background for as well polysyllabic.

Still, though, I know IT'll kill off Pine Tree State the first clock my quarter round reaches for the non-existent Clear All release on my new iPhone 8 (assuming I actually make the big leap).

Delete all localised photos & videos from the Photos app

You've probably heard about the new storage-saving features in iOS 11, particularly when it comes to the storage-hogging Photos app.

iCloud Photograph Library leave help shave some of the storage space consumed by your iPhone snapshots, but Google Photos for Humanoid hindquarters rub all local pictures and videos, perfect for keeping exposure storage to an rank minimum.

For instance, Apple proclaimed support for a newly image format (HEIF, for "High Efficiency Image Format") that can halve the number of memory board gobbled up by your snapshots.

Too coming in iOS 11: shortcuts that do a ameliorate job of recommending storage-saving features like iCloud Photo Library, which uploads all your pictures and videos to the cloud then automatically pares toss off the add up of images sitting happening your iPhone or iPad.

Those are worthwhile improvements, just here's something I'd sorely miss if I went dorsum to iOS: the "free up space" feature in Android's Photos app, which immediately zaps each and every local snapshot and video stored along your handset.

Thanks to the "free up space" feature, photos take up less than 100MB of space on my 16GB Link 5X. Then again, the Photos app on my old iPhone 6 consumes a humorous 17GB of storage, eve with iCloud Photo Depository library turned on (and yes, with the Optimize iPhone Storage option enabled).

Fillip tip: The iOS translation of Google Photos has a "free up blank space" feature just like its Humanoid counterpart, meaning you could brighten tons of computer storage quad on your iPhone or iPad by uploading your photos to Google and so using the "free up space" option to cancel your localised copies. Keep in mind, though, that if you're using Google Photos and iCloud Pic Library at the same time, wiping your local images and videos with Google Exposure's "free up space" feature will also edit those photos from iCloud, so make sure complete your local image files are safely supported first gear.

Symbol shortcuts on iPhone letter keys

As with the latest reading of Google Keyboard for Android, iOS 11 will bring symbol shortcuts to letter keys on the iPad keyboard, ready to hand for saving a couple of keystrokes when you need to type a number of import, an ampersand, or another grassroots symbol.

Thanks to iOS 11, symbol shortcuts on letter keys (shown here on Google Keyboard for Android phones) are lastly coming to the iPad; not indeed for iPhone, alas.

That's a welcome change, simply unfortunately, iOS 11's so-called "QuickType" keyboard is only coming to iPad, non iPhone. Forthwith, you could argue that the iPhone computer keyboard is too small for symbol shortcuts, but the shortcuts on Google Keyboard work evenhanded nongranular on my five-inch Nexus 5X.
